Hello friends! Just started the sawmill project and very much appreciate being welcome here. Your post provide insight, inspiration and confidence. I’m not far along but included a few pics. Thanks again!
That barrel is a great start. You have already delivered on the weathering. Rick
A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first barrel.
Great looking barrel and I look forward to your build.
Great start! Look forward to seeing what you do with this kit.
Hello Dan, great seeing you posting here and look forward to following along with your sawmill project. Always exciting to start a new kit! Starting with some details is a great way to get the mojo going. Well done.
Thank you. I have gotten through maybe a third of it so far. I saw the organizer idea on here somewhere. (I appreciate this person just don’t remember who at the moment)
Hey Dan, really like the wood tones you achieved on those castings! Very nice.
Thanks! I already developed a “wonderful slurry” from rinse and repeat trying to get that look. Painting with chalk is new to me. Awesome technique and so simple
Off to a great start with the resin castings. Very organized! Glad to see you here on the SW Forum. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Brett! Awesome kit and I’m having a ton of fun with it
wood coloring and weathering is very well done! I think you’ll need a larger organizer for all the wonderful castings in SW kits.
Dan, very nice work on the castings - I’m really looking forward to following this thread.
Dan, castings look great. Wonderfully painted and weathered. I aspire to your level orf organization! Mine just wind up tacked to the piece of foam I spray painted the base coat on until ready to be used-- very precarious arrangement!
Thanks Travis! This kit has greatly improved my modeling. I do foresee a supplemental drum order for Brett in the future because I want them to all look like the red and white one. My eyes are so old that I see stuff to improve in the pictures that I can’t see with my eyes. Work in progress for sure
I like the way you did your drums and the detailing on the cabinets and shelves. It’s interesting where you started, I started with the machinery and some started with the wood. cool
Thank you. I wanted the mill because I inherited the machinery from my grandfather. It is already assembled however and the parts that belong in the sub floor are installed already. The log deck is fully assembled. Also it was stained with diluted Floquil paint. I’m going to order a new machinery set as soon as my wife gives me approval. I plan to use chalk and alcohol on the new set. Hopefully not much longer
I got real lucky on the machinery part…Someone had a full set in their junk box at a train show with no instructions and no idea what they were…I was a good guy and told him…but he still basically just gave them to me…so I now have 2 sets…
That’s a great find. Are they 3D printed or or an older version?
Some older stuff…not the 3D
