Thank you for following along Swissrail, Ken, Travis, tommich, Joel, and Ray for your very kind words.
Although there have been several 1:1 events over the last month I have been making steady progress on the warehouse, office, and yardmaster office.
I discovered I made several building errors most notable was the cluster putting on the shingles on the warehouse causing me to try to make it look good on the fly and after the fact. I’m ashamed to say this was because I didn’t read far enough ahead in the directions.
Next up is working on the docks.

I’ve completed 3 docks and a porch other than some things that need to wait until towards the end and final weathering. I’ve added NBW’s where I thought they were appropriate.
Terry your nail tool works great on the dowels for graining and the hand crank sander works so good that I will be getting one for myself. Thank you.
Next up is the large dock that the buildings sit on.
The instructions recommend N Scale ballast on the 6 legs. I used fine HO in mixed gray. I think it looks good. Let me know if you feel differently.
Nice docks Curt. You might consider darkening the board ends on the top boards of the docks. Use a chalk similar to the board colors. Using A/I or chalk in alcohol, the liquid will wick onto the board surface. Using just chalk just darkens the ends. You can see some of the boards are darker from the staining of the wood.

Just catching back up with everyone. Nice progress, Curt. The fine ballast looks good on the trestle legs. I would suggest you may be weather them a bit with some blackish-green, to establish a high water line.
Curt, Nice dock work. Any modeling of barnacle build up on pilings is a happy medium between seeing it and truly being in scale. Kind of like nail holes.

Urs, I added some whitish-gray above the barnacles (sp) then applied light tone to it all and it looks better to my eye.
Since the last update I have built the main dock. The legs will be added later. I also built the small shack that sits on the end of a previously built dock.

That decking will make a great backdrop for all the wonderful details later on. Terrific wood work Curt.
Ken I’ve been thinking about lightly sanding the large deck to weather it a bit. Do you think that’s a good idea?

Most of my decking like that, I like to lightly sand down the sharp top edges of the boards before laying the decking. That gives a nice well worn surface. Sanding after the decking is down will certainly give a more worn look by knocking down any high spots that would have likely worn down with traffic. Lightly rubbing in some appropriate colored pigments with your fingers will deposit the pigments in the cracks depicting dirt and grime that naturally settles there.
Personally, being a water front structure I would grey the boards just a bit to show bleaching. Have you tried any AI stain? Take a few boards that will be covered in the end and apply a light black AI stain and see what you think. Also the decking being a slightly different color tone than the structure will improve the variation and visual interest. This is all personal choice of course as your work looks top notch. The picture with the shed, the decking there really looks nice and already somewhat bleached out looking. The image below that, the decking looks crisper and newer, may just be the picture.
