Wooden Tanks

OK, so there’s not much activity happening on the forum these days so thought I’d post another one of my quicky builds. If you are getting tired of these let me know and I will stop posting them. Just playing around with some of the many SW detail parts I have in my stash. The 2 horizontal tanks I had previously finished from some other project so thought it was time to incorporate them into something usable. Also trying to use some of the finished details I have sitting around. All to make room for more finished detail parts. :upside_down_face:

Whaat!..tired of looking at fine modeling like this…I don’t think so. Really nice wood tones you achieved here Tom.

You are our lifeline! Keep on keepin‘ on!

Looking good their…….almost wish Brett would make some details like these available again. I especially like what you have done with the static grass scenery. Something that I defiantly need to work on. Love it, keep em coming!!!

Each of these scenes pack in so much fantastic modeling. Well done! There can never be too much of this. Thank you for sharing. I’m getting new ideas with every post. There is so much to this scene but, two things really stand out for me. First, your use of foliage and grass under, around and between the details really sells the scene. I like the varying heights and textures also the various grit sizes in the dirt. The other is your rust on the tank bands and the patch plate. Your color saturation is perfect and the bleed into the wood is so realistic. I’ve been working on getting the rust to look more subtle as yours does without disappearing altogether. Again, great job an look forward to seeing more.

Thanks guys. I have more to post so will do so when I get them complete. They don’t take too long so they will be coming soon.

Dwaine, I agree. Those resin tanks are really neat I’m glad I got them when I did. Wish I had gotten more. There’s nothing like them available now. I’m not sure the wood texture could be duplicated with today’s 3D printing. Also Brett had a really neat selection of metal tanks which I have some of.

It’s not static grass. I use Woodland Scenics ground foam, Silfor and Martin Welberg grass tufts, and bushes. The “dirt” is a mixture of real dirt, that has a sandy texture, which is a brown color, and a sand. I mix the two to create a more natural look. The dirt and sand I picked up from an area in northern WI, where my mother in law lived. I got a 5 gallon bucket of each. Glad I did.

tommich outstanding modeling on these little tanks. Everything looks perfect and I love the square tank. I would definitely buy that as a separate detail from Brett. As always very well done.

Thanks Curt Much appreciated.

really great looking work!
