Getting used to the new Forum

It took me forever to figure out the old forum…I’ll slowly get used to this one….bear with me….

The weekend is coming up. What else have you got to do? LOL

Totally understand Art. I felt the same way when I started configuring the new forum. Got used to it super fast once I started digging in. Posting comments and pics is so easy and can now be done with a mobile device.

The forum software I chose is focused on security and they update the software almost daily. They even reached out to me and we had a great phone call. Most importantly we will never run out of room as upgrades are super easy for me when needed.

So be sure to dig in and ask any questions along the way. Jim and I want the transition to be easy for everyone.

I really appreciate everyone’s support!

One of the things I found that I really like.

If you are making a post, if you hover your pointer over the X as if to close it, you’ll see that it will save your post automatically when you close it. That saved me big time when I was transferring a very long thread and was 7/8 done and my power went out. I thought I lost everything, but when the power came back, my post had been saved as a draft. Phew.

I figure it out….might need an update on posting photos….

Ok…heres a good question….how do I put the link to my desktop….every time I search to find it…it leads me back to the old forum….then I can click on the new link…and it brings me here…can I link this to my desktop?

See that little lock to the left of “https” in the address bar? Grab that and drag it to your desktop.

Can you tell me how to load photos when I post on a build thread?

Hi Curt:

So appreciate your support of the SW Forum, thank you.

Photo Posting: Click on “reply” then click on the upload picture icon (the small square with the mountain and sun profile.) in the reply box. You can also paste an image in to the reply box, or drag and drop an image into the reply box. Maximum photograph upload size is 4mb and 1500 pixels wide. It is strongly recommended you only upload .jpg, .jpeg, or .png file formats. Any files larger will automatically be rejected by the forum software. Feel free to post from a computer or mobile device. If you want a refresher course in what this means, google the terms. Please do not post videos without prior admin approval.

A friendly reminder to everyone, please do not post photographs in someone else’s thread! Simply start your own.

Curt, this is the picture icon.

Thanks Brett and Jim.

I recently posted an update to my “ALCO’s Work In Progress”. I expected this update to elevate the post to higher visibility. Am I right about this?

I don’t see that you have posted anything on that thread in quite a while. On the left of the page where is says “My posts”, click on that and it should go to your drafts. Possible you didn’t submit the post and it’s still in the draft phase? Any new post will bring the topic to the top of the page.

I “edited” my original post rather than use “Reply” at the bottom of the topic…at least I think that what I did wrong. I’ve deleted (backspaced!) what I had added and will try later using “Reply”. Thanks.

That makes sense, I didn’t realize you could edit a post. Yeah, an edited post won’t bring it to the top of the page.

To edit, click on the pencil icon.

JimM, I am new to the new forum and I gather that you may be especially involved with its creation. I am computer literate but cannot begin to figure out how to use it. If you can help it will be greatly appreciated. I can find topics I want to read but not a function that allows me to create a link to find it the next time keep my place. I must re-search the forum and start from the begining every time. Is there some bookmark function. lt would be helpful to find a general use guide somewhere. Thank you. Jim K

Jim, I sent you a message with the procedure to bookmark. Let me know if it helps.
