HO/HOn3 Backwoods Tie Mill : KKarns

Amazing Ken… to say well done seems inadequate

terry

Thanks much Jim! Your forum work here is nothing short of super human, appreciate ya my friend!

Hey Terry, nice hearing from you and thanks much!

A great overall design with meticulous execution! Did I mention tons of eye candy? I’d pay money to see this!!

Appreciate ya Al…thanks much. The overall workflow came together fairly well. The addition of the added road access made a big difference.

Thanks for the update. Cannot wait for the final photographs.

When I look at these overhead shots two things immediately jump out at me. The forklift scene and the sawdust storage area. Everything flows so naturally and there is a scene waiting to be discovered around every turn and twisty bend. The trees are such an integral part of the diorama and I just love them.

Ken you have outdone yourself again. Everything looks like it came out of a history book. Outstanding.

Thanks much Brett. I think I made around 35 trees for this diorama. Scrutinize just one and they are…ehh…but put 35 together and it doesn’t look too bad. Kind of like that biological phenomena where insects hatch in mass to confuse the predators, lol.

Appreciate that Curt!

Looks like it came out of one of the old logging books. Outstanding as always Ken. Appreciate the top down view and look forward to the detailed shots. Maybe in March when the weather clears up…

lol…Maybe March! Thanks Travis, I hate just posting two pictures like that but wanted to show the progress of completing things here.

Really superb modeling Ken. The diorama is really cool. I love the little bridge over the reek and the various details. You did a great job with the woods, and, of course, your buildings are a great example of “how to do it”.

That is just so outstanding!! This maybe one of the best you have done!

Jerry

Hi George, appreciate your comments here and there are a fair amount of mini scenes that aren’t able to be seen very well in these two images. The Cletrac tractor under the open shed for one. I’ll also get more into the structures once I get some additional pictures.

Hey Jerry, nice hearing from you my friend! Thanks for such a kind note here. I try and add some facet of modeling that I haven’t done before and the main one here are the trees. See the response to Brett above! Thanks again…Ken

WOW! Very nice! So much to look at. Can’t wait to see the detail shots. I love the log storage yard with the fork lift, and the logs containing the sawdust storage area. Using the covered maintenance area for tractor repair is very creative. Everything fits together so well. An inspiration to be sure.

Thanks much Tom. A few detail shots coming.

Waiting for some good weather just isn’t going to happen anytime soon. I decided to start some detail shots indoors as follows:

The Main Sawmill structures and associated details. These two buildings are completely removable and I”ll show this later on in a follow-up post. Rough logs enter to the left with finished ties to the right.

The end of the mill where the finished ties are stacked to be loaded on trucks. Note the pulley, hook and rope added for some visual interest.

Close up of the rope and pulley set-up. I made the tie loading platform out of the same logs seen in the background.

Another view

Even the vine growing up the post stays attached to the post as I remove the structures.

View of the rear of the shed.

Just love all the SierraWest Scale Models 3D printed detail parts. the flat tire was sanded from the back at an angle so when the tire was leaning aginst the drum the front edge was still solid on the ground.

Shot of the awesome SWSM Forklift at work moving logs to the mill.

Backside of the main sawmill.

Very nice indeed, your work is fantastic.

**Your Final Photos are incredible. They augment all the fine details incorporated uti\o each segment of the builds. **

Thanks much Kevin!

Appreciate that Dave and nice hearing from you!

Removable vines?!! Innovative to say the least! Great pix of a great dio! Keep’em coming.

The following are some shots of the Main Tie Mill with the structures removed:

Note the elevated log rollway fed by the forklift.

I made a screen to protect workers from the main drive wheel.

Another shot showing the protective screen
