HO/HOn3 Backwoods Tie Mill : KKarns

Yes please more! Very nice! Everything fits so well together. Like the addition of the safety screen. The little shed with the tractor has so much interest. Lots to look at.

Will do Tom and thanks much.

Thought I’d post some of the scenic work that went into this diorama:

Landforms were roughed out with 1” builders foam board. The foam board was carved to a rough form with a blade and a knife. This was followed by an application of FastMache a product similar to sculptamold. The rock outcrops were carved from this while still damp. The “water” is all acrylic using AK Products. First an application of Still Water (AK8008) for the base water as this is self leveling. I then put on a couple layers of AK Transparent Water Gel (AK8002) to give the appearance of moving water.

Wait! Where did the vines go? Beyond fantastic Ken. Your scenery in particular gets better with every build. Hard to believe. My favorite shot is the one from above showcasing the flatbed. Outstanding modeling.

Take any one of these pix and make a list of every example of “extreme craftsmanship”. You can really get lost in each pic with pure enjoyment! Thanks for being such a valuable member of this forum.

Your work is a joy to see it gives me inspiration to improve with my modelling skills.

Appreciate that Travis! That AB Flatbed is such a nice kit.

Awfully nice of you to say Al, thanks so much!

Mission accomplished Kevin and thanks so much. I’m already planning out my next project.

Very nice! Like the downed trees in the woods and across the creek. I can hear the bubbling water with each photo! The pine needles on the roof in the one photo is a nice detail. Thanks for the pics. Keep them coming So much to look at and learn from.

Really next level modeling here Ken. Love it all. That fence in the last photo is a nice touch too.

Ken,

More extraordinary modeling of scenery for the Backwoods Tie Mill diorama. The structures and the scenery combined allow the viewer to walk right into the scene. Simply the best. Thanks for this carefully crafted build and mini tutorials throughout your build.

Thanks much Tom and nice you noticed the pine needles on top of the outhouse roof! Many of those small details you assume may go unnoticed.

Hey Jim, thanks so much. The fence finished off the terminal edge of the diorama, kind of gives it context.

Nice hearing from you as always Dave! Thanks for you kind words my friend.

Uhmmmmm, there is a lot to absorb here. Not sure where to start so I will simply say initially, well done, hah! Superb modeling and diorama crafting. Watching a master at work is a real joy.

Appreciate that Brett, coming from you it means a great deal!

Excellent modeling Ken. What do you use for the bushes? They look more realistic than what I use.

Hey Curt,

Thanks much my friend! I make my bushes from Scenic Express Super Trees and use the branch clusters as armatures for shrubs. I then flock them with various fine turfs and leaves.

Very Nice Ken. You get a big WOW!!!

Stephen, been awhile hope all is well. Thanks much!

Love those close up shots! So much to look at. Lots of interesting details to see.

Awesome modeling, Ken. I really like the water feature you added - it looks so realistic especially where it meets the shore. The lean to and tractor shed are really cool additions that make it so interesting to look at. What a great modeling job.
