Logging Sled

As I have stated many times, I like details. I found this photo, I think on the SW website some time ago and saved it for inspiration. In any case I’m in between builds now and thought it would be a great time to build one. I had finished the wood tank previously plus the junk boxes. All I needed was the metal tank, which I have in my stash. Some strip wood from my supply and other details and there you have it.

The tanks, junk box, barrels and jacks are SW castings. The tools are SS Ltd. It was a fun 2 day build (had to wait for paint and stain to dry).

Right on Tom, looks fantastic!.. now you just have to build a kit around this piece! lol.

Fantastic modeling Tom. I always loved sleds and this was a one-piece resin casting included in the Eureka Springs Engine House. I made hundreds of those and they were very challenging. That dates back to late 1996, yikes.

Great “grain and stain” and details! Maybe you have a previously constructed “detail” you could pair with this and tell a story?

Looks great Tom. Using sleds as a platform for all the SW details is such a great idea. And these “smaller” builds in between the larger projects keep the motivation moving. The rust and oil really sells it. Nice work.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. A kit would be really neat Ken. Alan, it would be a great addition for any number of logging dioramas. Thanks Steve, yes it’s nice to do a smaller build once in a while.

Yes Brett I have had that photo for sometime. I just came across it while going through some files and thought Hmm time to build it. I sure miss those resin tanks you used to make. They have so much potential.

Tommich excellent job on the sled. It looks very professionally done.

Very nice Tom.
