My Sixth SW build: randyp

Thanks Ken, to me it looked about right after looking back at pictures I took of the belts at the East Broad Top shops. I didn’t want it to floppy. Thanks Tom, this kit does have a lot of details as do all of Brett’s kits do. Randy

As I mentioned earlier I got this kit used at the Denver convention. It was missing a few detail pieces. The two main items were the work table inside the right hand door and the vertical boiler. I had a detail kit that had a table that I used. The details on and around the table are from Brett.

The vertical boiler was rusted and partially covered with a green tarp. The tarp is made from tissue paper painted and soaked in diluted white glue and then draped over the boiler. After it dried I added chalk to dirty it up some. Randy

Randy, both scenes are very well done. I will definitely steal, er., I mean borrow the tarp idea.

Curt, thanks but I can’t take credit for it. This is all Brett’s work. It was in the instructions. He never seems to run out of ideas. Randy

This is looking great, Randy. I like the way you do the roof instead of cardboard. And the machinery looks great. You’re doing a masterful job putting it all together. Great diorama and it will only get better as you finish it up.

Thanks, Glandesjr. Actually I diorama is finished. I am just taking pictures and recounting what I did to achieve the effects I was hoping for. Randy

Now I will turn the right corner of the engine house and show the details I used along the end of the building and fence. Many of Brett’s fine parts are placed between the corner and the tower.

The signs are for Brett and add additional color to the scene. Later I will show that the roof is being replaced. So if you look in the center bottom of the picture you should see a small pile of shingles that have been removed and thrown off the roof.

In the pictures so far how many beer bottles have you found? The modeler I am building this for likes his beer. So I always add a few to each diorama. Randy

Ohhh. That’s why it looks so good. Great build Randy and I appreciate your insights into how you did it. That"s a big help. Get your friend to buy the sawmill so we can learn while you build it. I have the sawmill but haven’t started it yet. Heck I’ll have to create a whole new work space just to fit it in :)!

Randy what a great scene. I really like the oily residue on the ground.

Looking really nice Randy….trying to catch up here as the modeling bug hasn’t motivated me as of late…so I figured this is the best place to get in the mood. I’m still not 100% with the new forum yet….I’ll eventually find my way around.

Nice scene. Great placement of details.

Exquisit executed, Randy. The built grows ever more magnificent each time you reveal the scenes to us.

Besides, I count three bottles in the last picture.

Art, nice to hear from you. How is the tie Mill coming along? I have all of the details painted and the three frames built.

Thanks Tom

Thanks Jen there will be more scenes as we go all the way around the diorama. You are correct for the bottles in this picture. I asked for the total in all of the pictures so far. So you are a little short. Randy

A little farther to the right more details along the fence.

The main detail behind the back fence is the wood pile. I moved this from the side of the boiler house because I thought it would be easier to get at the wood along the back then going around the water tank and water line to the boiler. Thanks for looking. Randy

The wood pile is a great detail. What is the purpose of the tower?

Wood stained…some frames started…details primed…low ambition right now…

Well Art, I have just been staining the wood as I need it. I have all three frames built and the shed wallpaper built but not together. I will post pictures when I finish this thread. Get to work Art
