The first question that may come to mind is why don’t I simply migrate the content in its entirety from the original to the new? During this process there is a very real risk of corrupting the old database and losing all of the material. This has actually happened to another forum in our hobby.
The only foolproof way to move content over without the risk of loss is thread by thread. We want to retain and transfer as many build threads as possible so… Is there a thread(s) you would like to see transferred over from the original forum? If so please let us know. You can request to have your own build threads moved over but please make sure to register here, on the new forum first.
We appreciate your efforts in preserving the 15+ years of original forum content.
JimM has spent countless hours transferring threads over and ensuring this invaluable content remains available to all of us on the new forum. Much appreciation and thanks Jim!
If you have some spare time and can help transfer content please let us know.
Very new here - but what I have seen so far from previous posts, especially on build postings are irreplaceable instructions and knowledege for building these kits. I am not an expert on IOT, but would like to see all of this transfered over if possible to save this legacy.
First off welcome to the forum and thank you for registering.
Very much appreciate your thoughts on the original forum content. Jim is currently getting it transferred over. The plan is to have the original forum available until the build threads have been transferred here.
Please be sure to let us know if you see a thread on the original forum you want to make sure in transferred!
Great to have you aboard Ducky. You are now surrounded by a lot of incredible modelers who are very happy to share not just their work, but how they achieve such great results so you can too. Rick
I would like to transfer every thread that is an active build thread. I want to make sure users can add to their thread as they progress. If I’ve missed any, let me know.
Joel, those have all been transferred. Thanks for chiming in. While logged in, If you click on “My posts” over on the left, it goes to your account. From there you can click on “Topics” and all your threads are listed there.
OK - I would like to see “Twin Mills” HO build thread by Bill, unless it has been moved and I missed it. Fantastic ideas and tips in this build! plus I am waiting patiently for my kit to come in. I believe the posting year was 2011?
That’s awesome Jim - greatly appreciated! That thread was actually the deciding factor on getting my own Twin Mills kit, very inspirational. That of course is not the only one I have seen as there are so many talented people on here it’s very humbling and I only hope I can achieve those results with the wealth of information here.
It’s rewarding to know that these threads have value to others. It makes it all worthwhile. I should have it transferred by tomorrow unless something comes up.
All good Jim, I appreciate your efforts as all people here do! There is no rush for this as I am waiting for my “special” delivery from Brett whom I talked to this morning, so no worries.
Tom
So was Bill a member back then and has since left the site at some point? If true, that is a loss of a very talented person - then again he left us his legacy for future builders.
I don’t know what the specifics are about Bill not being a member here. I know there are lots of members of the old forum that haven’t registered for this one as yet. Maybe when the old forum goes away, more will join here. Let’s hope.
Bill is still around and I speak with him from time to time. He has not registered yet with the new forum. Hopefully he will start modeling again and continue to share with us!
Jim - I (swissrail) did start a thread “O’Neills - My first Sierra West Build”, which I had to abandon in August 2024 driven by work events. Now, after retiring and a move, I am ready to dive into the hobby again in the next couple of months once I am settled. Once I get (re)started, I would prefer picking my existing thread back up, rather than starting a new one. Would it be possible to transfer that over to the new forum?
