HO Backwoods Tie Mill

So I was able to do some “logging” and acquired some White Pine branches as per Ken’s fine build. They do have a nice bark texture. I am almost finished, just one more small scene to complete. I have somehow lost the body to the drag saw. I have the blade, but the body has vanished. I scoured my work area, and waited till the last minute hoping it would urn up, but alas nothing. so I called Brett and he kindly agreed to send me a replacement. Now that’s service! Thank you Brett. So I just have the drag saw scene to complete, but I wanted to give an update on the progress so far.

I decided to make the roof removable. It’s a shame to hide all the detail inside. So here’s pictures without the roof to show all the great detail in this kit.

Once the drag saw body arrives I’ll complete the last scene and post updates.

Tommich that is some outstanding modeling. I know nothing about logging but are the “logs” a normal size?

Great job on the machinery, structures, and details! Quite an inspiration. Will you be incorporating the truck?

You have done a fantastic job hopefully my “O” scale build of the Tie Mill will be up to your standard.

Excellent work here Tom! The scene composition and detail work is terrific. Well done.

Fantastic, everything came together so well. Wonderful job!

There is no such thing as a “normal size” for a log. The size a mill would utilize depends upon the size limits of the main blade rig, surrounding resources, and desired output. Hope this explanation is helpful, great question Curt!

Thanks guys for the nice comments. It has been a fun build. There’s lots of details included in this kit! As I have stated previously I love incorporating details into my builds. I have to say I still have some left over to use in the future. wonderful to have so much detail to be able to use. Thanks Brett!

Curt, I based the log size on the saw blade. I cut the logs between 8 & 9 feet in length. I originally cut some logs then after placing them on the saw the diameter was too big so I cut some smaller logs to fit the saw.

Thanks for the info Brett and Tommich. It makes sense to the logging rookie.

Great work on this one Tom. You are right, shame to hide all those details with the roof but sometimes it’s fun to crane your neck down to “eye-level” and check it out!

Thanks Travis, but I don’t crane as well as I used to. Much easier to peer over the top!

Al, I don’t think I’m going to add the truck to this build. The only available space in next to the logs. I tried placing it there and it looked crowded to me.

As I mentioned in my last post, I lost the drag saw body. I asked Brett if I could get a replacement and he kindly sent me one. I finally got around to installing it on the diorama, thus finishing it. This was fun build loaded with lots of neat details.

Great looking scene Tommich.

Looks great.

That’s a very nicely done drag saw. Glad you added it.

Thanks guys. It is such a neat detail, I had to include it.

Love that print and you did a great job with it.

Tom, I’ve been pretty passive on the forum up to this point. I read through the entire posting, all very impressive. The thing that sticks in my mind is the resin casting (the tank on the small shed). The weathering on both the tank and shed is perfect, the overall build is nicely detailed, great job.

Excellent scene work highlighting the drag saw Tom.

Thanks Ray and Ken. It was fun to build this nice kit.
