Post your completed SW 3D Printed kits here:

Almost 40 years ago Charles H. Brommer introduced his now legendary white metal Machine Shop kits with a series of understated black and white ads in the Gazette. How could his mastery of meticulous research, creating brass patterns that are unrivaled to this day, or his amazing hand casting work be improved upon? Enter 3D Printed parts! Each 3D Printed part is an almost exact replica of those incredible brass masters. Each Machine is faithfully reproduced as Charlie intended them to be. They’re so easy to assemble and for the first time ever, available in HO Scale as well as the original O Scale. These machines are a joy to work with and are incredibly versatile. Over the coming months, I will be making the entire set available including the beautiful vertical boiler and single cylinder mill engine. The engine lathe gets us started and will be available later this month along with the beautiful “Farmall Regular” tractor kit. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to be notified when these are available.

All signed up for the newsletter and at the starting line ready to go. What color paint are members finding makes a credible machine gray or machine green?
Thanks, Dave S. Tucson, AZ

Available later this month…

I just completed the pre-production test build and paint of the new 3DP Farmall Regular tractor for Brett. It went together beautifully and easily.

It looks great sitting next to the already available 3DP Farmall C showing the evolution of these wonderful machines

Jerry,
Thanks for the reply. What brand and shade of green did you use for your machines? I worked one summer in a machine shop back in 1962. I had lots of weird assignments there but one was assembling keying and pinning equipment assortments for farm equipment. Those kits were sold through Sears. There were some machines in both colors in the shop. I wonder if colors varied by date of manufacture and manufacturer as well as country of origin.

Dave,
I always use craft ‘Christmas Green’ for my green machinery. It’s scary bright when you first put it on but it weathers down beautifully.
I’ll look for the grey I use on the others and let you know. I think it’s “Drizzle Grey” but I’ll double check for you.

In HO no less! That lathe will be a thing of beauty!! Charlie would be real proud of you Brett.

Thanks Jerry. Before Charlie passed he was very interested in how I was going to cast the CHB boilers in resin instead of white metal. He agreed it was a better way. I think he would have been all over 3D Printing!

Terry, nope not a “one run” product. Way too much time goes into developing these 3D Printed projects to do that. Just not always in stock.

The venerable BEST Sixty crawler was manufactured between 1919 and 1925 in San Leandro California by the C.L. Best Tractor Company. BEST would eventually merge with the Holt Caterpillar Co. in 1926 to create the Caterpillar Co. as we know today. The BEST Sixty would continue being manufactured until 1932 as the Caterpillar Sixty. The Sixty is the quintessential logging tractor and is a model I have always wanted to manufacture. I never imagined a technology would emerge that allows me to create a crawler with such incredibly accurate and fine detail. Wow she’s a real beauty! Pictured here is my unweathered production proof. I will have pictures of my fully painted and weathered pilot model shortly. Both HO and O scale 3D Printed kits will be available very soon. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to be notified when these are available.

November 2023
Now that is really amazing. The details keep getting better. Can anyone in the industry ever catch up with you. I’m afraid not!!

Now available, the BEST Sixty logging tractor! I always wanted to manufacture this beauty but never imagined a technology would emerge that allows me to create a crawler with such incredibly accurate fine detail. Available with or without the canopy. The body includes only six finely detailed 3D Printed parts. The Sixty is so easy to assemble and weather. There’s no tedious and complicated tread to assemble. The complete tread assembly is a one piece part for ease of construction! A separate tow hitch is included so you can adjust the height as needed. The canopy includes two 3D Printed supports, styrene, and corrugated aluminum. I have a good supply on hand for immediate shipment but these will sell out quickly.

Linn Manufacturing of Morris, N.Y. began production of its patented Linn Half Track Tractor in 1916. Designed to overcome the problems of hauling large loads over rough terrain, the secret of the Linn’s success lay in its unique rear-end crawler-type traction unit. Unlike most rigid crawler designs of the day, the Linn crawler assembly featured a flexible track-roller design. The gear-driven assembly incorporated track rollers able to follow irregular ground surfaces ensuring it maintained positive traction. The Linn was able to pull loads through adverse conditions including mud, snow, and ice.
Coming Saturday, September 14, the 3D Printed Linn Half Track will be available in both HO and O Scales. Available in two body styles, the stake bed and dump bed. Each version features different cabs and wheels. An optional accessory package includes the ski sled attachment, open hood, and an extra set of both wheelsets. Since the parts are interchangeable you can mix and match as desired to create your own Linn. As with all SierraWest 3D Printed kits, the Linn HT features incredible details with superior quality prints. Minimal clean-up and ease of assembly means you can spend your modeling time with the fun stuff, weathering and assembly! The pictures here feature my finished production models. Laser cut mylar is included for the window glass and stripwood is included for the stake bed. The Linn was the most challenging of all the 3D Printed kits I have produced and I am so pleased with the final results. Super excited to see what you all do with this awesome kit. • Nick Ogden sent me this reference photo of a Linn truck hauling logs. Note the tracked trailers behind the truck…Brett…um…nice accessory possibility?

Nick advises that he plans to model this scene so any duplication will be seen as stealing his idea and you will be cast aside to the withers of other unscrupulous modelers destine to model fire and brimstone for eternity!

admin
That’s a classic pic and was my inspiration for the entire project, a main reference for the drawings. If sales warrant I may add the trailer to the catalog.

Now Available!

The Mack Model AB was first introduced in 1914 with more than 55,000 units produced. This medium-duty truck’s simple yet classic design made it a very popular truck and the design remained relatively unchanged until it was discontinued in 1937. They were made in 1.5-ton, 2-ton, and 2.5-ton capacity ratings. Depending on the gear ratio, the AB had a top speed of 13 to 25 miles per hour. The inspiration for this shortened frame or “Stubby” version is based closely upon the CHB Models classic white metal kits produced by Charlie Brommer and myself for many years. Adapted as a tow truck, she is my first 30th Anniversary kit release. This version features the incredible one-piece tow assembly as well as many newly designed details. All the “extra goodies” pictured can be found carefully packaged in the special 30th Anniversary box including the cab roof mounted horns and rack, gas tank, rear mounted tool box, spare tire, license plate holder, several flood lights, and multiple emergency flashers. The Stubby Tow Truck kit also contains a generous selection of hooks, pulleys, blocks, and brass chain for you to rig up just about anything to tow. I cannot wait to see what you come up with!

As with all SierraWest 3D Printed kits, assembly is very straightforward allowing you to focus on painting and weathering. Instructions can be downloaded from the SierraWest website with the provided link. This was such a fun project and I am certain you will find a home for this classic piece of Americana on your layout, diorama, or in your collection.

Must Read Reviews
SWSM is featured in the Sept-Oct 2025 Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette pp. 18-19 and 21. Additionally, there are photos of a few tractors, trucks and castings that we have been gobbling up for a few years. Plus there is a stellar reviews of Brett’s Mack Stubby tow truck and Ford TT flatbed trucks. Nice to see the recognition of what we have been buying knowing the quality of all of Brett’ offerings.

The 3D Printed MACK AC Bulldog is now available in HO and O Scales. The MACK AC Bulldog was arguably one of the most important truck designs in American history and certainly holds a place of honor as one of the most iconic trucks ever produced. The chassis only kit is the foundation of this unique modular system. Five different interchangeable bed attachments are available allowing you to easily swap them around to customize any scene. The beds do not need to be glued down and are designed to sit on top of the chassis. SierraWest 3D Printed kit designs are focused on simplified construction with minimal assembly. Your modeling time is spent on the fun stuff, painting and weathering.
